As the temperature drops across the Eurobodalla region, community kindness is rising. Now in its third year, the Winter Appeal partnership between Campbell Page and Blackshaw Coastal Real Estate continues to bring comfort, dignity, and vital support to young people and families facing hardship during the colder months.
Each year, this initiative calls on locals to donate winter clothing, warm blankets, and non-perishable food, which are collected at Blackshaw’s Batemans Bay office and distributed directly by Campbell Page’s youth services team. These essential items are shared with individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness, as well as families supported through the Reconnect, Targeted Early Intervention (TEI), and Specialist Homelessness Services programs.
“When young people feel supported, they’re more likely to re-engage in education, seek work, or take that next step,” said Anne Hodge, Head of Community Services at Campbell Page. “Community drives like the Winter Appeal may be the first spark of hope.”
The rising cost of living, combined with the region’s ongoing rental crisis, continues to put immense pressure on families, and young people are often the first to fall through the cracks. Many are living in insecure or unsafe environments, couch surfing, or facing homelessness altogether. Campbell Page supports over 300 young people each year, but our team says the real number of those in need is far higher, and continues to grow.
“Youth homelessness on the South Coast isn’t always visible, but it’s growing,” said Julie Hamilton, Youth and Family Services Operations Manager. “This appeal gives us the practical resources to meet urgent needs, but also sends a powerful message: that this community cares.”
The response from locals has once again been incredibly generous, with donations already flowing in. Items in high demand include jumpers, jackets, hoodies, beanies, gloves, scarves, thick socks, warm blankets, sleeping bags, and pantry staples like pasta, rice, and canned goods.
“We’re so grateful for Blackshaw Coastal’s continued support,” Julie added. “Together, we’re not just providing warmth; we’re helping young people feel seen, safe, and hopeful about the future.”
This simple act of giving goes a long way. A warm coat can help someone get to an interview. A sleeping bag can mean a safer night. A food parcel can relieve pressure on a struggling family’s budget.
“It’s not just about the items, it’s about what they represent,” said Anne. “Compassion, solidarity, and the belief that everyone deserves a fair go.”
Donations are being accepted until Friday, 27 June, and can be dropped off at Blackshaw Coastal’s office at 1a Orient Street, Batemans Bay. If needed, pick-up can be arranged by calling 4472 4758.
